He wears a typically Norwegian 13th century brimmed helmet worn over a quilted coif or arming cap. No other form of armour is visible; his simple, unpadded sleeveless surcoat is, however, closed at the front with a large decorative pin brooch. The knightly belt drawn tightly around his waist has numerous decorative stiffeners, and a very long end hanging down the front. His leather-covered wooden shield has large rivet heads securing the internal grip straps and guige.
