British/Commonwealth Armoured Division

Notes:

(A) One of the two armoured brigades was replaced by an infantry brigade. The Support Group was abolished and Division Royal Artillery was placed under Headquarters Division Royal Artillery. Division Royal Artillery increased by another Royal Horse Artillery or Field Regiment. Headquarters Armoured Division was given two anti-aircraft tanks (WE II/100/2 wef 26 August 1942), Headquarters Armoured Regiment was given eight anti-aircraft tanks, and the fifth troop per squadron that had been taken away in May 1940 was restored. That increased the Establishment of a regiment by nine cruisers (WE II/151/2 wef 26 August 1942) to a total of 61.

(B) Tank Establishment of an Armoured Division Now Became:

HQ Armoured Division 8 Cruisers
2 AA Tanks
8 Tanks (Plus 2 AA Tanks)
HQ Armoured Brigade 10 Cruisers 10 Tanks
Armoured Regiments (3) 55 Cruisers
6 Close Support Cruisers
8 AA Tanks
183 Tanks (Plus 24 AA Tanks)
TOTAL: 201 Tanks (Plus 26 AA Tanks)

(C) In October 1942 Armoured Division Support Companies, as Division troops, and Infantry Support Companies were authorized (WO Letter 20/Gen/6059 SD1 wef 1 and 30 Oct 1942). Only the Guards Armoured Division adopted this experimental organization in 1942; and the Armoured Division Support Company was replaced in 1943 by an Infantry Brigade Support Group.
