CTL-3 being load-tested with the
standard US Navy 45 foot steam launch

USMC photo
This photo, c1937, shows one of the original 5 CTL-3 being load-tested with the standard US Navy 45 foot steam launch, backing down the ramps, probably in the Potomac River at Quantico, VA, USA.
One of the reasons frequently cited by the Corps for its independent tank development at this point was the need for equipment so light that it could be landed even if no specialized landing craft and lighters were present. At 9500 lbs., CTL-3 did this, but little more.
