Cantiga 182 of the Cantigas de Santa Maria of Alfonso X

The Thief who was Brought back to Life (Deus que mui ben barata)

A thief roamed the forest, robbing people.
He took whatever he could get, including bread and wine, and gold and silver.
Nevertheless, the thief was devoted to the Virgin, and he never committed crimes on the eve of her feast days.
If anyone asked him something in the Virgin’s name, he would do it.
The thief died suddenly and a host of devils carried him to a hilltop and beat him badly.
His mother prayed to the Virgin to restore her son’s life. The Virgin resurrected him, and saved him from hell. He obeyed her will from then on.
