Cantiga 126 of the Cantigas de Santa Maria of Alfonso X

The Soldier who was Struck in the Face by an Arrow
A man in Elche was shot in the face by an arrow.
The arrow was lodged firmly in his face and could not be extracted with pincers.
A crossbow was set up to extract it, but with no success.
The man, in extreme pain, had himself brought before the Virgin’s altar.
Weeping, he repented and confessed his sins.
The Virgin extracted the iron projectile from the man’s face. He suffered no pain. Many people witnessed the miracle and praised the Virgin.
