Two squires attempted a robbery.
They were caught and thrown into prison.
One vowed to give 100 nails towards the building of the church at Soissons if he were to escape from prison.
His stocks immediately fell from him, but he waited until nightfall to make his escape.
He told his companion of his vow and the latter pledged 1000 nails to the same cause.
The first squire escaped at dusk. The second squire disappeared without a trace and the guard attributed their escape to the Virgin.
