Cantiga 062 of the Cantigas de Santa Maria of Alfonso X

The Boy whose Mother’s Prayers Freed him from Captivity
A woman, who had spent all her money doing good works, fell into debt and borrowed some money.

Her creditors demanded that she repay the money with interest.

She could not pay them, so she gave them her son as security. He was held hostage.

The woman prayed for his release to the Virgin Mary. The Virgin promised to release him from the usurer.

The woman went on horseback to the town square where a dance was being held.

She saw her son and called to him. They rode away together and no one tried to stop them.
