A medieval clash of cavalry as depicted in Vanni's fresco of the battle of Sinalunga. The more heavily armoured cavalrymen are followed by lightly armed horsemen, presumably representing light cavalry. Note also the heraldic devices and helmet plumes of the heavy cavalry and the padded armour of their horses.

The heraldic devices of the victorious Sienese, on the left, almost certainly represent those of actual participants.
